My best friend's wedding
My best friend is getting married next month. I am the maid of honor, which means among other duties, planning a trip out to Colorado for one last hurrah for Melissa. She has also asked Scott and I to put together a list of music to be played between the ceremony and reception. Here is what we came up with:
1. Badly Drawn Boy: The Shining
2. Blitzen Trapper: Furr
3. American Analog Set: Come...
I know what I will be doing this summer.
Riding this around anywhere and everywhere. I bought it a couple weekends ago and picked it up last night. I was leary after I bought it, because it was a somewhat whimsical purchase. But after riding it home in the rain, nonetheless, I couldn’t be happier. It is unbelieveably fun, not to mention I have reduced my carbon footprint, am going to save money on gas (we’re talking 90...

– Tom Robbins
Quite possibly my favorite writer. I saw him speak at the Minneapolis Public Library last week. He didn’t speak for very long, but made up for it with his wit and charisma. Tom, I think you and I could be friends.
Central America trip is booked
It’s not until November but I cannot wait for it. We have some pretty cool stuff planned this summer: a Boundary Waters trip in July, Pitchfork Festival in Chicago, the annual Labor Day trip to the Black Hills, ACL in Austin. And yet, all I can think about are Belize, Guatemala, Honduras. There is something to be said about immersing yourself into an unknown language (well, I can get by...

I can't decide which one I am more excited for
I get to see this guy:
And this girl this weekend:
How lucky am I?
The anticipation of Mates of State is killing me
I can’t wait to see these two on Sunday. Watching them on stage together proves that love exists, they completely adore each other. I read an interview with him once, he said the first time he saw her was in a Connecticut bar where she was playing. He fell in love with her while watching her, went up to her and asked her out, and they have not spent a day apart since. Cutest idie...
We are going to Rock the Garden
It’s baaaaack! Rock the Garden at the Walker, the perfect kick-off to summer fun. The line-up this year is:
1. Solid Gold
2. Yeasayer
3. Calexico
4. The Decemberists
Only this time I won’t drink a Wonderous Punch at the Red Dragon afterwards and decide that biking home is a good idea.

The National is coming back to Minneapolis
A friend of mine sent me this photo this morning, to remind me how hot Matt Berninger really is. Do you think we will be seeing them come July at First Avenue? Does the Pope shit in the woods?

– Character of Janie, Zora Neale Thurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God
I am almost through with this book. It is one of the greatest love stories I have ever read. The story about the author is even more interesting- her writing was not properly recognized until after her death; prior to this her...
Happy St. Patrick's Day
I am not a huge fan in celebrating this day. I think it all goes back to working at an Irish bar for several years and dealing with non-Irish drunks for the entire day. I wanted to give a shout out to my heritage, nonetheless. I will be celebrating this evening with my mother and Scott. What could be better than dinner and a movie with two of your favorite peeps?
You keep sending out these little paper boats, and hope that someday one will...

We watched this movie last night. A total low-budget film starring Josh Duhamel (a bit distracting in a way, because throughout the entire film I kept thinking, “Fergie, really?”). Basically it’s about a bunch of gringoes down in Brazil on vacation, but the vacation gets cut short rather quickly when the locals decide they want to cut up their bodies for their healthy organs...
Bonnie Prince Billy sings dreamy melodies
I have been listening to this guy all day. He is a wonderful lyricist and guitarist. Did you know he used to be an actor? And now does smaller indie films, such as Junebug and Wendy and Lucy? This gives me all the more reason to see this hyped film starring Michelle Williams (whom I love, by the way). Oh and one more thing, I cannot wait to see him play at the Walker next week.

I yearn for younger, simpler days sometimes
On of my best friends came back home this weekend, with her son to visit some family. It was looking pretty bleak that we were not going to see each other. Whenever she comes back, her family consumes her like a plague and it’s hard for her to get away. Four of us ended up going to dinner on Sunday night, and I haven’t had that much fun in I don’t know how long.
We ended up...

Sometimes life is just not fair
From Connie Minowa of Cloud Cult:
Greetings! Thanks for stopping by. I’ve been thinking and thinking about what to say in this little “about me” section. I have the hardest time talking about myself and an even harder time summing it up in a short profile. But without further ado, here goes. Born in a small town in Southern Minnesota, our family of 6 lived in a sleepy part of...
Haley's voice is magical
We went to see Haley Bonar and Mason Jennings down in Iowa City this past weekend. It never gets old seeing Mason, he is such a great guitarist and listening to his lyrics is like listening to his life story. But a pleasant surprise was Haley. I have seen her before, but I forgot how beautiful her voice is. I like to watch her and think of what her life was like growing up in Rapid City and...
