Love ain’t somethin’ lak uh grindstone dat’s de same thing everywhere and do de same thing tuh everything it touch. Love is lak de sea. It’s uh movin’ thing, but still and all, it takes its shape from de shore it meets, and it’s different with every shore.

Character of Janie, Zora Neale Thurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God

I am almost through with this book.  It is one of the greatest love stories I have ever read.  The story about the author is even more interesting- her writing was not properly recognized until after her death; prior to this her writing was considered objectionable due to her writing style of African American dialect.  Alice Walker wrote a piece about Zora, which revived interest in her work, and coincided with the emergence of authors Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou and herself.  And now, it is among Time’s top 100 English novels to read.  Thank you Alice, for bringing Zora’s writing to America’s attention.
